USC’s No. 1 beach volleyball overtakes Seminoles to advance to NCAA winner’s final

GULF SHORES, Alabama – The No. 1 seeded USC beach volleyball team (35-1) earned a 3-1 victory over No. 4 seeded Florida State (30- 10) at the 2022 NCAA Championship Winners Draw Semifinals in Gulf Shores. Beach on Saturday May 7.

The Trojans advance to the Winner’s Bracket Finals to take on third-seeded No. 2 UCLA (34-7) at 3:00 p.m. CT (1:00 p.m. PT) on ESPN2.

USC extended its winning streak to 34 contests – the second-longest streak in program history – and improved to 17-5 all-time against Florida State with a four-game winning streak against the Seminoles. The Trojans also improve to 21-4 all-time in head-to-head games at the NCAA Championship and 28-8 in games played at Gulf Shores.

USC scored the first point of the duel from the No. 3 position where Delyanie Maple and Julia Scoles made short work of their opponents Anna Long and Kate Privett in a 21-6, 21-10 win. It was the seventh straight win for Maple-Scoles as the pair improve to 35-1 this season and move to 12th in USC history for most wins per pair.

Florida State tied the double score with a win on court two when Alaina Chacon and Madison Fitzpatrick took a 21-19, 21-18 victory Megan Kraft and Samy Slater to snap the Trojans’ 25-game winning streak and hand the pair their first loss of the season (25-1).

In close battles at the other positions, USC put the green light on the board with a victory at the No. 4 position when twin sisters Audrey Nourse and Nicole Nourse earned a 21-19, 24-22 win over Morgan Chacon and Jordan Polo. It’s the eighth straight win for the Nourse twins (24-4 overall) as they become only the fourth pair of Trojans to record 60 wins (60-10 all-time).

In the higher court, Tina Graudina and Hailey Harvard had the decisive point with a three-set victory over Maddie Anderson and Brook Bauer, 21-12, 12-21, 15-9. Graudina and Harvard win their 28th straight game to improve to 29-1 this season.

With the double clinched, the game was suspended at the No. 5 position. There, Mollie Ebertin and Sunny Villapando lost a close 21-19 decision to Caitlin Moon and Raelyn White in the first set, but battled to a 22-20 victory in the second to force a third set, which never started when the last horn sounded sounded.
