Put a volleyball in his hands and North Hagerstown High School senior Jaidan O’Donoghue will inevitably quell a vigorous kill.

Jaidan, 17, has just finished playing the central blocker position for the Liberty Elite Volleyball Club travel volleyball team, and plans to fall when she takes the field for the North High varsity team.

“Volleyball is very important to me,” Jaidan said. “I’ve been playing since I was 8, starting at the YMCA. Volleyball is everything to me… Volleyball keeps me very, very busy. I train three times a week and travel on weekends. It’s really fun.”

When not in the field, Jaidan serves as the recording secretary for the North High Student Council.

“It was really nice,” she said. “We plan events for the spirit of the school; especially after the pandemic, it is important to strengthen the spirit of the school and the spirit of the community. “

Jaidan is also part of his school’s youth organization Empowering Our Future.

“We organize clothing drives and food drives for the less fortunate,” she said. “Mainly for the Children In Need organization. We help sort out clothes and work with the organization.

Academically, Jaidan is part of the International Baccalaureate, or IB, program, which aims to educate curious, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect, and puts the emphasis on international spirit and global citizenship.

17-year-old Jaidan O'Donoghue plays varsity volleyball for North Hagerstown High School.

Jaidan’s classes this fall include Mathematics, History, French, English, Philosophy, and Theory of Knowledge.

At the moment, she does not know where she will go to college.

“I don’t want to go far,” she said. “Not across the country.”

But Jaidan said she was already looking at the premedical trail.

She is a member of the North High Computing Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.

“Calculus Club is where students can tutor other North High students and help them with their homework and math skills, and I’m someone who helps tutoring,” a- she declared.

17-year-old Jaidan O'Donoghue is in his final year at North Hagerstown High School.

Jaidan is the daughter of Michael and Merih O’Donoghue from Hagerstown.

She has an older brother and sister, and a younger brother.
