The Whitehall men’s volleyball team picked up another stunning win, this time over Emmaus, 3-1, (25-18, 25-16, 16-25, 25-22) on Monday night at Emmaus.

“We beat them last year and then lost to them in the playoffs, so we’ve had our eyes on that for a while,” elder Anthony Gallo said. “We’ve got a really good defense and our passing has been good all year, and our hitting has been good all year.”

Last weekend, the Zephyrs participated in the Bobcat Invitational at Northeastern High School where they played five games.

“Certainly better than training on Saturday for us,” Whitehall coach George Cowitch said ahead of the Emmaus game.

The Zephyrs also won a Friday night game at home against Pocono Mountain West, 3-0 (25-5, 25-6, 25-6).

Jack Kocher led the Zephs in kills against the Panthers with 11. Gallo had eight digs, seven in the third set. Tommy Buskirk and Matthew Yadush scored multiple service points, with Yadush relying on his float serve.

“The trick is to hit the ball right in the middle so it flattens and then drops as it crosses the net. It’s one of the best serves in the game, and it’s hard for a lot of teams to serve-receive,” Yadush said.

While the Panthers struggled through the night, that didn’t diminish the Zephyrs’ effort to play their best games.

“We try to bring energy, even for small games. Our bench is always celebrating and everyone gets excited when someone gets a big kill or a block,” Yadush said. “It’s the culture we’ve built. Families are super supportive, and at some of the biggest games like Parkland and Emmaus, when they’re home, our student section really fills up.

Whitehall’s next match is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Bethlehem Catholic.
