Cignal wins again; Black Mamba bouncing

Cignal picked up their second straight win as Black Mamba Army bounced back with a win at the 2022 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Invitational Conference at the Filoil Flying V Center on Thursday.

Cignal HD Spikers came back from straight sets to defeat Choco Mucho Flying Titans, 24-26, 19-25, 25-16, 25-21, 15-11, while Army Lady Troopers defeated Petro Gazz Angels in four sets, 25-22, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23.

Ces Molina unleashed 17 points with 26 excellent digs to lead Cignal, who improved to 2-0 in the tournament.

Rachel Daquis had 10 points and 18 digs while Gel Cayuna threw 32 excellent sets in addition to seven points, including four blocks.

Glaudine Troncoso scored 13 while Ria Meneses and Roselyn Doria contributed 12 and 11 points respectively.

Choco Mucho rallied in the fifth set and went within one, 8-9, on a Des Cheng hit. Cignal created some separation with a 5-2 outburst capped by Kat Tolentino’s attacking error for a 14-10 lead.

Cheng saved a match point for the Titans but an attacking error from Isa Molde sealed the victory for the HD Spikers.

Kat Tolentino shot a game-high 31 points to beat the Flying Titans (1-1), as Cheng and Molde scored 14 apiece.

Meanwhile, Jovelyn Gonzaga unloaded 23 points and 23 digs to propel the Lady Troopers past the Angels.

Michelle Morente had 13 points and 11 digs while Ivy Perez dished out 21 great sets with 10 points for the Black Mamba Army (1-1).

Trailing by one point, 20-21, in the fourth set, Black Mamba uncorked a 4-1 drive capped by a Gonzaga hit to go through two, 24-22. Myla Pablo saved match point with a kill before Gonzaga ended the match with an attack.

Aiza Maizo-Pontillas finished with 22 points to beat the Angels, who fell to a 0-2 map.

Pablo struck in 16 while Dianel Cheng threw 18 excellent sets.
