Cabrillo Women’s Beach Volleyball Team Qualifies for State Championships

The Cabrillo College women’s beach volleyball team defeated San Mateo 5-0 and Sierra 3-0 in NorCal Regionals in Main Beach on Tuesday to advance to the state championships.

The CCCAA Beach Volleyball State Championships will be held May 12 at Irvine Valley College in Irvine.

Carly Ditz and Shirley Morrison (22-20, 21-12), Alana Patyk-Randa and Ashleigh Souza (21-13, 21-19), Erin Eschleman and Lindsay Heller (21-17, 21-8), Emma Martin and Cierra Verdone (21-17, 21-8) and Sophie Ortiz and Jazmyn Tubbs picked up wins over the Bulldogs.

Ditz and Morrison (23-21, 21-14), Patyk-Randa and Souza (21-17, 21-14) and Martin and Verdone (14-21, 21-16, 15-12) recorded victories against the Wolverines.

Boys volleyball

At Kirby 3, York 0: Senior/opposing passer Ryan Kolderup had 10 kills, 15 assists, seven aces and three blocks as the Griffins went 25-21, 25-15, 25-20 to finish the regular season undefeated in the Cypress Division of the Pacific Coast Athletic League on Tuesday.

Senior middle tackle Oliver Annon had six kills, 15 digs, two blocks and three aces for the Griffins. Opposing/middle blocker Zack Stack had five kills, 12 digs, four blocks and two aces.

Kirby (league 10-0) hosts Palma on Thursday in a Central Coast Section play-off at Santa Cruz High at 5 p.m.

High school softball

Soquel 21, at Aptos 1, 5 hostel.: Carmella Muccilli had five hits, including four for extra bases, and the Knights saw their win in the Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League on Tuesday reduced to five innings on mercy rule.

Muccilli finished with three doubles, a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored.

Nevaeh Martinez was 3 for 3 with a double, five RBIs and four runs scored, Dillyn Vasconcellos was 3 for 3 with a stolen base, two RBIs, three runs, Tori Sierra had two hits including a double and an RBI , and Kierra Mattas had two hits.

Game-winning pitcher Sophie Seese three three hitless innings with three strikeouts.

Soquel (9-3-1, 8-1) hosts Scotts Valley Wednesday at 4 p.m.

San Lorenzo Valley 5, at Scotts Valley 0: The Cougars posted a shutout in their SCCAL road win on Tuesday.

Kristin Powell had three of Scotts Valley’s five hits. Kayla Brown and Taylor Wilson each singled out.

Alysa Harrington pitched all seven innings for the Falcons.

High school baseball

At Aptos 7, Scotts Valley 1: Gabe Gaeckle hit a three-run home run and scored three runs in the Mariners’ victory at SCCAL on Tuesday.

Aptos (18-6, 13-1) broke a tie at 1 with its fifth inning two-run and nailed four runs in the sixth.

Owen Dueck had two hits and three RBIs, Jake Galster had two hits and scored a run, and Reed Moring had a hit, two RBIs and scored a run.

Game-winning pitcher Gabe Gaeckle allowed two hits and one unearned run in six innings. He walked a batter and struck out 13, bringing his season total to 75 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings. Quinn Hocom pitched a relief inning, striking out two.

The Mariners play at Scotts Valley Friday at 4:30 p.m.

Port 11, to SLV 4: Cyrus Sek 2 for 4 with three RBIs in the Pirates’ SCCAL road win on Tuesday.

Ferris Vitali was 2 for 2, twice hit by pitches and scored twice for the Pirates, and Luke Hartel was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Game-winning pitcher Mason Clark pitched five innings with six strikeouts and two earned runs allowed.

Cody Houston hit two doubles and a solo home run, and scored three runs for the Cougars. Michael Lang had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, Nathan Davison had two hits and an RBI, and Wyatt Berridge had two hits.

Harbor (14-10, 6-8) hosts SLV Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

Santa Cruz 9, in Soquel 0: The Cardinals posted a shutout in their win at SCCAL on Tuesday.

Matt Blanke, Brady Spencer and Ian Martin had hits for the Knights.
