#22 Volleyball sweeps Villanova, 3-0

OMAHA, Neb. — Powered by a total of 23 sophomo eliminationsre Norah Sis and freshman Ava MartinNo. 22 Creighton Volleyball knocked out Villanova in straight sets on Sunday, September 25.

The set scores for the match were: 25-17, 25-15, 25-18.

With the win, the Bluejays improved to 10-3 on the season and 2-0 in the BIG EAST, while Villanova fell to 4-10 overall and 0-2 in conference.

The first set turned Creighton’s way as soon as the Bluejays scored six of the first seven points and continued to build an 11-3 advantage. In the first 14 points, Sis had three kills and Martin added a pair. Creighton scored on all but two of Villanova’s serves in the set, for an 88.9 side percentage.

The Wildcats got off to a better start in the second set, taking the lead three times, but the Bluejays took control via a 5-1 run with the set tied at 10-10. Sis opened the wave with a kill and gave Creighton a 15-11 advantage with his eighth ace of the season. Martin and senior Kiana Schmitt each added a kill on Creighton’s run. Leading 21-15 moments later, the Bluejays closed the set with four straight points, capped by a senior kill Keeley Davis.

Tied 5-5 early in the third set, the Bluejays created the split with a 10-3 push. During the run, the Bluejays forced Villanova into four offensive errors, picked up a pair of service aces, two kills from Davis, and one from Sis and a sophomore. Kiara Reinhardt. Villanova closed in the four at 22-18, but the Bluejays responded with the final three points on a Martin kill, Villanova offensive error and a service ace by junior Ellie Bolton.

Sis led all forwards with 12 eliminations in the match, while Martin finished with 11 eliminations. Davis led the Bluejays with 10 digs and Kendra waits and Bolton both served two aces. Creighton had 43 kills, seven aces, 34 digs and six blocks on a .320 strike.

Villanova got eight decisive wins from Rose Crist in the loss. The Wildcats recorded 29 kills, three aces, 33 digs and four blocks while hitting .090.

Creighton returns to the field on Wednesday, September 28 as the Bluejays host Xavier at 6:30 p.m. at DJ Sokol Arena.

REMARKS: Creighton improved to 11-0 at home against Villanova, including eight sweeps… The Bluejays won 17 straight sets against the Wildcats inside DJ Sokol Arena… Kendra Wait a streak of six straight double-doubles was snapped, as the sophomore passer finished with 34 assists, five kills and three digs… Creighton improved to 75-3 all-time in home games of BIG EAST in the regular season, and 139-13 all-time in all BIG EAST regular season contests…Creighton has won 143 straight games hitting .300 or better…Creighton has won 195 straight games against conference teams by winning the first two sets… Ellie Bolton made his first start of the season and the second start of his career.
