In this month of May we continue our presentation
of different philatelic items with Registration Labels. So far I know of
only two registration labels that were issued during the Olympic Games in
Sydney, 2000.
If you can send scans from other items that are not in my online
catalogue please send me an eMail, clicking here:

Here you can see the two registration labels from Australia: One is a
prepaid label (I suppose the registration fee is paid when the label is
bought), the other one is a normal label.
Both have a little sticker (white colour) which is to be kept by the
sender. Unfortunately, both covers (see further below) semm to have been
inspired by a philatelist. They were not really sent and did not pass
through the mail stream.
I have to add a very important
comment regarding this ITEM OF THE MONTH:
Every month I am trying to present special philatelic
Volleyball items in this space. This month I wanted to try your reaction
on a very "non-philatelic" item. Unfortunately only one reader sent in a
very good comment (it was Thomas Lippert from Germany). He states that
these REGISTRATION LABELS have got very little to do with philately, since
they were produced privately in order to make money from interested
collectors.
You could buy these REGISTRATION LABELS at any post office (of course
without the Volleyball symbol). Someone overprinted these labels privately
(they exist with a variety of different sports), and sells them at a
rather high price to interested collectors.
The irony of these covers is that they were supposedly sent as registered
mail, but never really passed the mail stream.
I have nothing to add to this comment !
