Dear friends !
During the twelve months of 2006 I will present interesting items of the twelve oldest Volleyball stamps. I hope you will be interested in them. Today we continue with the eighth part (August), another stamp from Bulgaria. If you have any interesting covers or other material to enrich this site, please let me know.

The eighth Volleyball stamp issued worldwide comes from Bulgaria, after our March-item-of-the-month the second stamp from this country. It was issued on December 28th, 1954 to celebebrate the 50th anniversary of the trade union movement in Bulgaria. It shows a worker resting in an armchair at the Velingrad recreation centre as well as some people playing volleyball. It is a commemorative stamp with a face value of 16 Stotinki. It has comb perforation 13 and no watermark. 150.000 stamps were printed in photogravure, and the issue was designed by  St. Sotirov. It was the lowest value in a three-stamp-issue.

Michel 932; Scott 879; Yvert Tellier 803; Stanley Gibbons 967; Domfil 954.6

This time I can present a cover which seems to have been postally used.

This registered letter was sent from Sofia on the first day of issue of the stamp. It was franked with three of the stamps presented this month. The letter was sent to Anka Michailova, whose address was "Osma Drushina, 4; Veliko Trnovo".
